Sale Wrap Up for 2024 August Bull Sale
99 Bulls Sold, & a Great Turnout
It was a terrific day. The weather was beautiful with a crowd of around 200 people enjoying meeting up with like minded cattlemen and women to inspect the bulls and enjoy lunch at the “Full O Bull Café”
The sale commenced at 1pm with a full set of stands as well as 202 logged on through Auctions Plus.
At the end of the sale 99 bulls sold from 99 offered with an average of $12,208 and a top of $32,000. Longstanding clients John, Deb and Townsend Curtin secured the top price bull, Lot 93 Eaglehawk Powerpoint T536, for their Moredun Station operation. Volume buyer securing 7 bulls at an average of $13,428 was Nick and Kate Benson of OK Cattle company for their Yarrowitch property.
Bulls were purchased from as far north as Hughenden in north Qld and as far south as northern Tasmania. 37 bulls travelled to Queensland, two to Tasmania with the remaining 60 staying in NSW.
It’s also important to note that our purchasers were not bidding against credits in the stands, which means the prices were fair and reflective of true market value.
17 bulls were purchased online through Auctions Plus with the remainder selling to customers in the stand. Return customers dominated with 62 bulls going into existing Eaglehawk clients herds with 15 new customers picking up the other 34 bulls.
Spicklers Powerpoint sons were among the most sought-after and commanded the highest prices, reflecting their exceptional quality and market demand. LD Capitalist 316, even after his recent passing, continues to leave a legacy, with his sons remaining a top choice for many buyers. The exclusive US sires, McCumber Carbon and U2 Coalition, also made a strong impact, with 18 and 19 sons, respectively, attracting significant attention.
Strong Value Across All Price Ranges
Overall, the sale offered buyers an excellent selection across various price points, with particularly strong activity in the $6,000 to $12,000 range, where 62 bulls were successfully sold. This range allowed many buyers to secure top-quality and cutting edge genetics without exceeding their budgets. Whether aiming for bulls under $8,000 or willing to invest up to $20,000, there was ample choice available, making it a solid and well-balanced sale.
Blake O’Reilly assisted by Sam Sewell of APLG Guyra/Armidale manned the rostrum with Blake doing a terrific job as auctioneer. Our young and vibrant sale team consists of APLG Armidale/Guyra and KELLCO Livestock QLD.
We are confident these bulls will seamlessly integrate into the various cow herds, making a solid and positive impact whether you’re after maternal qualities, pure power, or the often underestimated value of longevity and sound structure. We’re proud of the lineup we presented this year—they are well-tempered, naturally soft, and muscular, with strong maternal pedigrees. This combination is always a winner for producing easy-turnoff calves and feedlot-strong yearlings.
And remember, we’re always here if you have any problems, need advice, or just want to share some good news—we love hearing your success stories!

He has been used heavily by Spickler Ranch South, North Dakota and U2 Ranch with great results. Sons are solid performing, good looking bulls with modest birth weights. Daughters are consistent in their type, deep ribbed, well structured, and feminine fronted. The cows behind Coalition are outstanding. His dam and granddam are nicely uddered and highly productive. We saw his mother at Spickler Ranch South last summer and were totally impressed by her feminine power.

Powerpoint demonstrates exceptional carcass quality. He offers calving ease, strong growth, exceptional marbling and excellent maternal characteristics, making him a well-rounded and versatile sire. His offspring also exhibit exceptional feet and structural soundness.
We chose Powerpoint as the standout producer of maternal females that were raising fantastic calves when we visited Spickler Ranch North in 2019. It was a no brainer.

PAINTROCK TRAPPER
PEDIGREE & EBVs >>
MORE INFO >>
We didn’t get to see the Paintrock herd but we spotted him in the Semen Centre in Billings in 2019 and couldn’t walk past him. We sought out progeny and found a herd with exceptional heifers by Trapper and thought he was worth including in our sire lineup.
He is good footed and has great body capacity and fleshing ease, which he passes to his progeny. The only downside to our Trapper calves is that the odd larger frame pops up. We strive for uniformity in our herd as this is critical for our industry down the line to produce a consistent product. For those looking for more frame, these are great.
Trapper will produce beautiful daughters with extra body capacity and fleshing. Pretty much all the Trapper daughters made it into the replacement heifers as they are solid, sound females that are feminine. The couple of bigger framed girls give scope to use a stouter made bull than we may have otherwise used.
SQUARE B TRUE NORTH 8052
PEDIGREE & EBVs >>
MORE INFO >>
True North boasts top maternal bloodlines, complemented by strong docility, foot quality, all while reducing mature size…He showcases a wide-based, stout construction, excellent muscle shape, and substance.
True North offers versatility and appeal, with eye-catching style, impressive length of spine, and hindquarter thickness. He moves flawlessly and exudes presence, with an ultra-low birth weight and exceptional EBV balance. His daughters are receiving rave reviews, renowned for their big bodies, slick hair, easy fleshing, and exceptional udder quality.
True North brings a versatile and broadly appealing maternal package to the table and as you know, here at Eaglehawk that is a priority.
BRUIN TORQUE 5261
PEDIGREE & EBVs >>
MORE INFO >>
When we first set eyes on this bull at the Strommen Ranch in North Dakota it was for a friend… Needless to say he became a must for our breeding program also.
Torque is perfect for those seeking structure, length, depth, easy fleshing and temperament.
He is so quiet we ran our hands all over him in the paddock. He breeds this into his offspring also which is super important. His pedigree is packed with power with a double shot of Right Time and Density to sure it all up.
Torque has had huge semen sales in the USA for those seeking to breed superior replacement females that have that moderate thick made, easy doing phenotype. Maternal power and modern performance.
We are selling sons in 2022 in our production sale.
SITZ STELLAR 726D
PEDIGREE & EBVs >>
MORE INFO >>

Moreover, Sitz Stellar is renowned for his exceptional foot quality, ranking at the top for combined Foot Scores. This, coupled with his top 1% Hair Shedding genetics, makes him an ideal choice for breeders across various environments.
BRUNS BLASTER
PEDIGREE & EBVs >>
MORE INFO >>
Blaster ticked the boxes to enter our program with his flawless eye appeal, overall mass, and his performance to date. His progeny are breeding true with runs on the board for highly productive, big volume females and heavy, early turnoff males.
In the USA he ranks in the top 1% for the breed for growth. Blaster is a good balanced sire that will add power to any herd.
MUSGRAVE 316 STUNNER
PEDIGREE & EBVs >>
MORE INFO >>
Stunner is an extremely stylish, well balanced bull. He has the deep sided and thick topped body shape we desire in a performance heifer and cow bull. He comes from a super maternal pedigree that will not fail the person who breeds their own replacement herd. His daughters are stylish, roomy with great udders, just the type of cow you love to own. He isn’t too shabby on breeding thick, fast growing heavy steer calves also.
He is structurally correct to boot. This is a must for a sire in our herd. On the figure side his production traits rank in the top of the breed.
KOUPAL KOZI 418
**EXCLUSIVE**
PEDIGREE & EBVs >>
MORE INFO >>
(EXCLUSIVE TO EAGLEHAWK)
This unique herd sire breeds very consistently wide topped, naturally deep, thick carcase cattle. He would be considered an outcross to the majority of breeders in Australia which is a positive. He is a true curve bending bull as his calves are generally light and then they explode to the top of the group by 400 days. If you need to thicken your herd whilst keeping the cows feminine (with the added bonus of great udders), Kozi will do this. We have the only Kozi calves in Australia and he is now deceased. We really like how he has influenced our cow herd. If you are looking to thicken your herd and inject some strong maternal traits, you cannot go wrong.

The AI sires we have used to produce this year’s sale bulls have all passed the stringent conformation criteria we demand. The progeny and the program behind all of the sires are considered also, when we make our selections. This gives us confidence in the accuracy of our selections when we choose a bull for the Eaglehawk herd as we need to cut out all guess work.
EBV’s that we consider to be most objective when measured correctly are:
Gestation length, birth weight, 200,400,600 day weights, (when weighed at those ages), mature cow weight (weighed when her calf is 200 days), scrotal, EMA (scanned at 200 days), rib and rump fat and IMF (all scanned at 600 days).
We offered more bulls that we believe are the type to make you the most profit. Fertility is inherently linked to positive fat and moderation. We have moderate framed bulls that are thick, deep and easy doing. Our cattle marble so you won’t see the number game happening here. If it was a matter of choosing a bull with the biggest number values our job would be easy! What we are doing is breeding balance across all traits and a definite phenotype.
Perhaps the most pleasing feature of this year’s sale was the quality of the bulls by our homebred sires. These bulls and their progeny are absolutely the “Eaglehawk Type”. Anyway we look forward to bringing you our next lot of bulls in August next year and hope to see you here.
