LONG TERM PROPERTY CARETAKER
Maiden Creek | 65 km east of Armidale | New England NSW
A rather special opportunity for the right person or couple.
We are looking for a mature, reliable and practical person or couple to live on and help caretake our Maiden Creek property, approximately 65 km east of Armidale.
This is a long term arrangement and we think it would particularly suit a semi retired person or couple with a rural background who enjoy country life, are comfortable around animals and are looking for somewhere beautiful to call home.
The arrangement
In return for an agreed amount of caretaking and general property work, we offer rent free accommodation in a comfortable four bedroom country cottage.
Occupants would be responsible for their own electricity and normal living expenses.
This is not a full time farm position and there is no regular cattle work. We don’t expect someone to be tied to the property or constantly available.
What we do want is someone capable, trustworthy and practical who is happy to contribute to looking after the place.
What would you be doing?
The role is varied but not onerous and would typically include:
• Caring for our dogs when we are away
• Occasional checks of water troughs and tanks
• Mowing around the houses and immediate surrounds
• Cutting and supplying firewood for the houses when required
• Keeping an eye on the property, particularly when we are away
• Noticing and reporting anything that may need attention
• Receiving the occasional delivery or providing access for contractors
• Helping with the small practical jobs that naturally arise on a rural property
There is no regular mustering, cattle work or heavy farm work involved.
We aren’t looking for a full time employee. We are looking for the sort of person who notices a leaking trough, a fallen branch or something out of place and is happy to do something about it or let us know.
The lifestyle
Maiden Creek is a beautiful and peaceful place to live, surrounded by magnificent New England country.
We are approximately 65 km east of Armidale, giving you the peace and privacy of rural living while still being within reasonable reach of Armidale and the coast.
The cottage is a proper four bedroom home with plenty of space and privacy.
There is ample opportunity to enjoy your own interests, travel and have a life outside the property. We want whoever lives here to feel that this is their home, not that they are permanently on duty.
Who are we looking for?
More than anything, good people.
Someone mature, reliable, independent and practical who enjoys rural life, is comfortable with dogs and will treat the cottage and property with respect.
Previous rural or property experience would be highly regarded, as would someone who is reasonably handy and comfortable doing the everyday practical things that come with country living.
It may particularly suit a semi retired rural person or couple who still enjoy being useful and involved but no longer want the demands of a full time position.
References will be required.
Finding the right person matters far more to us than filling the cottage quickly.
If this sounds like it could suit you, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch and tell us a little about yourselves, your background, what you’re looking for and why this arrangement appeals to you.
And if it isn’t for you but someone immediately comes to mind, we’d be very grateful if you passed it on.
The right person may well be someone a friend knows.

The AI sires we have used to produce this year’s sale bulls have all passed the stringent conformation criteria we demand. The progeny and the program behind all of the sires are considered also, when we make our selections. This gives us confidence in the accuracy of our selections when we choose a bull for the Eaglehawk herd as we need to cut out all guess work.
EBV’s that we consider to be most objective when measured correctly are:
Gestation length, birth weight, 200,400,600 day weights, (when weighed at those ages), mature cow weight (weighed when her calf is 200 days), scrotal, EMA (scanned at 200 days), rib and rump fat and IMF (all scanned at 600 days).
We offered more bulls that we believe are the type to make you the most profit. Fertility is inherently linked to positive fat and moderation. We have moderate framed bulls that are thick, deep and easy doing. Our cattle marble so you won’t see the number game happening here. If it was a matter of choosing a bull with the biggest number values our job would be easy! What we are doing is breeding balance across all traits and a definite phenotype.
Perhaps the most pleasing feature of this year’s sale was the quality of the bulls by our homebred sires. These bulls and their progeny are absolutely the “Eaglehawk Type”. Anyway we look forward to bringing you our next lot of bulls in August next year and hope to see you here.
