One thing many people outside the seedstock industry may not realise is just how common sale credits have become within some bull sale systems.
When a genuine breeder-related issue occurs with a bull, replacement credits are often carried forward into future sales and used toward replacement purchases. Over time, this can leave substantial amounts of money sitting “in the stands”, effectively being reintroduced into the sale ring and artificially inflating demand and sale averages.
Bull Sale Credits in Seedstock Systems
At Eaglehawk Angus, this is not something that has become part of our program.
Importantly, we absolutely stand behind our cattle. If a genuine issue arises that is our responsibility, we work directly with the purchaser to resolve it fairly and practically outside the sale ring.
However, we believe bull values should primarily reflect genuine buyer confidence, repeat client support, and the long-term performance of the cattle themselves.
When large volumes of replacement credits are carried through a sale system, purchasers may be unknowingly bidding against money already committed back into the sale. In our opinion, this can distort true market competition and place genuine buyers at a disadvantage.
We believe sale results should be driven by real demand for the cattle being offered, not inflated through accumulated credits circulating within the system.
Our focus remains on breeding structurally sound, fertile and functional bulls that continue to perform under real-world conditions long after sale day.
Ultimately, we believe that is the strongest guarantee any breeding program can offer.
